This public process project is a revitalization effort in the historical worker community of Portsmouth, Virginia. The homes of the neighborhood were developed to house employees of the nearby shipping yards, and the streets are of a very subtle design. Through a charrette process, the design team worked with local residents, elected officials, and community leaders to reestablish a civic vision for the center of the historic district, including design recommendations for architecturally sensitive additions to the undersized homes and a frameworks for connecting greenspaces within the surrounding area.
