Merrill, Pastor, and Colgan Architects were selected to serve as design architects for this Federal Courthouse in the coastal city of Ft. Pierce. As a project that was initiated shortly after 9/11, the design was given additional security criteria that presented new design challenges for a civic building at a major city interstection. The large setback requirements were mitigated by creating a landscaped pedestrian green space running along the northern edge of the project and along U.S. Highway 1.
