In the competitive global industry of oil refining, our client envisioned the development of a company town to house up to ten thousand people in close proximity to what is expected to become the world's largest refinery. The project took on a regional presence as a prototype for incorporating high-density urbanism and conservation efforts with the state government for preservation of natural resources, including an internationally recognized bird-refuge in nearby wetlands. The architectural scope of the project consisted of a series of multi-family residential blocks with internalized semi-private greenspaces and split-level parking underneath. Additional designs were developed for a main entry gate, theater, market, hotel, and way-finding landmarks within the overall plan. The architectrual character is derived from traditional and contemporary Indian designs from western India, such as the regional art deco that is prevalent in Mumbai.
