This shrine in the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, Missouri was commissioned by then Archbishop Raymond Burke (now elevated to the College of Cardinals).  The composite order aedicule is highlighted by a mosaic recreation of a painting of the Sacred Heart, assembled in Venice, Italy.  The polychrome marble and byzantine elements are a gesture of deference to the historic environment of the Cathedral itself, and is set within the western transept of the church.
